Filipina atomweight Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres remains unfazed with her previous setbacks and is brimming with confidence ahead of her next appearance inside the ring.
Torres is set to feature against Jihin “Shadow Cat” Radzuan on the undercard of ONE: Masters of Destiny on July 12 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Grateful for another opportunity to strut her wares on the global stage, “The Zamboanginian Fighter” vows to showcase a new and improved version of herself in Malaysia.
“I am just thankful to be given another opportunity to compete. I’ve had a lot of mistakes in my previous fights, and I just want to bounce back and improve on my game,” said Torres.
“I’ve done a lot of adjustments and preparations since my last fight, and I’m excited to show it in Malaysia. I know that she’s strong and she’s hungry for the win.”
Torres had a blazing start in her mixed martial arts career, winning her first three contests at The Home of Martial Arts against notable opponents such as Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige and Team Lakay’s April Osenio.
Her seemingly-unstoppable streak, however, came to an abrupt end, as she is now on a three-bout losing skid.
In her latest outing, Torres dropped a first-round submission loss at the hands of Lin “MMA Sister” Heqin on the undercard of ONE: Reign of Valor this past March.
Eager to prove that she still belongs at the top echelon of the women’s atomweight division in ONE Championship, Torres promises to leave no stone unturned in her attempt to beat Radzuan in front of the latter’s adoring crowd.
“I’d do everything to stay in step with her. I’ve done work triple-time during my preparations, and I feel like I am stronger and more confident in my game now,” said Torres.
“For as long as there’s an opportunity for me to bounce back, I’d give my all. I’d do everything to get that win and prove that I am one of the best in this division.”
Torres added that the goal is to step up her game regardless of her previous setbacks. Win or lose in Malaysia, she said she will continue to do everything to reach her potential as a mixed martial artist.
“I am very decided to improve in mixed martial arts, that’s why I am doing everything which can be of help,” said Torres.
“I know I’ve been losing as of late, but this won’t stop me from being better.”
