Jordon Varnado impressed in his PBA debut after helping Meralco snap its depressing four-game losing slide in the Season 50 Governors’ Cup at the expense of Ginebra, 97-88, on Friday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Activated in lieu of Antonio Hester, the former BCL Asia import finished with 31 points, six rebounds, and four assists, as he presided over the Bolts’ strong closeout after the Kings threatened from down 11 points.
He took matters into his own hands when the opposition knocked within just three points, hitting a four under duress to push their lead to 85-78 with 2:37 remaining in the game which effectively restored order for his crew.
Varnado scored 12 of his team’s last 16 points of the ball game, as his assertiveness enabled Meralco to post just its third win of the tilt (3-5).
