The Philippine Blu Girls hardly broke a sweat against Singapore, cruising to a 10-0 victory in four innings for their third straight win in the 20th Asian Games softball tournament at Anjo Sports Park in Aichi, Japan, on Wednesday.
The Philippine women’s national softball team improved to 3-2 in the tournament, holding on to fourth place behind undefeated Japan and China, as well as 4-1 Chinese Taipei.
The Blu Girls set the tone early, scoring six runs in the opening inning, highlighted by 19-year-old Mylia Perez’s two-run homer to deep center field that made it 6-0.
First baseman Alyssa Daniell drove in Nicole Hammoude and Skylynne Ellazar with a double to left field to open the scoring before Chesca Altomonte and Reyae Villamin added two more runs for a 4-0 lead.
Hammoude belted a homer of her own in the third inning, drilling a shot to deep left field that also brought Perez home and stretched the lead to 8-0.
Second baseman Ellazar went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Perez finished with two hits and two RBIs. Angelu Gabriel also collected two hits.
The Philippines racked up 12 hits, while pitchers Glory Alonzo and MJ Alpitche combined to limit Singapore to just one hit throughout the game.
The Blu Girls will put their winning streak to the test when they face unbeaten China on Thursday.
