Carlo Bumina-ang once again proved to be a force to be reckoned with, emphatically dispatching Argentinian newcomer Mauro Mastromarini during their bantamweight MMA showdown at ONE Fight Night 30 on Saturday.
“The Bull” needed less than three minutes to dispose of his veteran opponent, electrifying the crowd at the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Mindful of Mastromarini’s striking prowess, Bumina-ang initially leaned on his underrated wrestling, pressing forward with a clinch to neutralize the Argentinian’s stand-up game.
But once the two disengaged, the 31-year-old Baguio City native switched gears, launching a striking assault that would ultimately spell the end.
He began by sweeping Mastromarini off his feet with a thunderous leg kick, sending a clear signal that he was ready to take over.
Although Mastromarini managed to escape from the bottom and return to his feet briefly, he walked right into Bumina-ang’s trap.
Two crisp left crosses from Bumina-ang sent the Argentinian crashing headfirst into the bottom rope near the turnbuckle.
With his opponent visibly stunned, Bumina-ang pounced, delivering four unanswered punches that forced referee Herb Dean to step in and stop the contest at the 2:45 mark of the first round.
The statement win extended Bumina-ang’s winning streak to two and boosted his professional record to 8-1, marking his fifth career victory by knockout.
On the other hand, Mastromarini dropped to 17-5 with the disappointing loss to Bumina-ang.
Unfortunately, it was a different story for fellow Filipino standout Fritz Biagtan (7-2), who suffered a heartbreaking defeat at ONE Friday Fights 103 the night before, also held at Lumpinee Stadium.
Biagtan fell victim to a spinning elbow from the debuting Edson Machavane (6-0) just 45 seconds into the second round.
The blow opened a deep gash on Biagtan’s forehead, prompting the ringside physician to advise Dean — who also served as the referee in the bout — to halt the contest, awarding Machavane a TKO victory.
