Carlo Bumina-ang’s meteoric rise in ONE Championship reached new heights on Friday evening as he clinched his fifth-straight victory at ONE Friday Fights 65.
This happened in front of an energetic crowd at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand tonight, beating Chayan Oorzhak in a bantamweight MMA encounter.
From the opening bell, “The Bull” fired on all cylinders, delivering a barrage of powerful punches that set the tone for the fight.
His relentless assault opened a cut above Oorzhak’s left eye. He also showcased a new dimension to his game, effectively utilizing leg kicks and high kicks to keep the Russian-Mongolian athlete at bay.
Recognizing the danger in Bumina-ang’s stand-up game, Oorzhak attempted to change levels and bring the fight to the ground.
However, the 30-year-old Baguio City native proved to be equally formidable on the mat, securing a dominant position and actively pushing for action.
The Team Lakay member peppered Oorzhak with ground strikes and hunted for submissions, attempting both an arm-triangle choke and rear-naked choke.
As the second round commenced, Bumina-ang continued to press his advantage, rocking Oorzhak with a heavy arsenal of strikes.
Sensing an opportunity to end the bout, he closed in during a heated exchange.
As Oorzhak scrambled to counterattack, Bumina-ang locked in a ninja choke, forcing the tap at the 2:39 mark of the first round.
This triumph not only extended Bumina-ang’s undefeated streak to 6-0, with all wins coming by way of finish, but also earned him significant accolades.
ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong awarded Bumina-ang a $10,000 performance bonus and a coveted $100,000 contract, guaranteeing him a spot on the promotion’s main roster.
This achievement marks a historic milestone, enshrining Bumina-ang as the first mixed martial artist and Filipino talent to graduate from the weekly ONE Friday Fights series.
On the other hand, Oorzhak dropped to 8-3 and tasted his first loss in the promotion.
