ANTA Philippines is adding a Letran Knight to its list of brand ambassadors for the first time after signing Chad Gammad to a multi-year endorsement deal.
The local arm of the Chinese sporting giant formally introduced the incoming sophomore as one of its newest collegiate talents, together with Carl Manding of University of Santo Tomas and University of the East’s Rachel Lacayanga.
“It means a lot just to be representing ANTA, and being the first one,” the 18-year-old gunner said during the contract signing held at the ANTA Gateway branch in Cubao, Quezon City, Wednesday.
“It’s a great feeling for me.”
This marks yet another career milestone for Gammad after turning in a commendable showing for CSJL in the recent FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup.
He started in all of the Knights’ 11 games and averaged 10.0 points, with his best showing a 27-point explosion behind a 7-of-14 clip from three-point distance to lead his side past UST, 103-102, and book a trip to the semifinals.
And it was his production in the country’s top annual preseason tournament that convinced the brand to bring him in and add to its roster of ambassadors.
“The first time I saw him, really, was during the FilOIl preseason tournament,” shared ANTA Philippines marketing manager Mikko Abello about Gammad.
“Right then and there, I messaged Apple [David] and asked if he’s working with a sportswear brand at the moment, because we’d really love to have him,” the UAAP basketball deputy commissioner continued.
“We’re very excited to have him on board.”
Gammad is expected to assume a bigger role in the upcoming NCAA Season 102 following the departure of key pieces such as Mark Omega, Deo Cuajao, and Jun Roque, all of whom are now in their rookie seasons in the PBA.
The Fil-Canadian combo guard admits that he’s feeling the pressure, but is at the same time looking forward to whatever challenge may come his way.
“I feel the pressure, of course. But I just have to embrace the pressure. Because this kind of opportunity is very rare for me,” offered Gammad.
“So, I will just have to take advantage of every moment that I’ll be on the court.”
He’s simply looking at those chances as blessings, nonetheless—just like being given the honor of representing a brand as renowned as ANTA.
“Very grateful. I wouldn’t take this for granted,” Gammad said.
“I’d like to thank Jesus Christ for this opportunity; it’s all God’s plan. I’m just grateful.”
