The Philippine muay artists made a huge contribution to the country’s medal haul at the Asian Youth Games, delivering three gold and two silver medals in a stellar Sunday performance at the Grand Hall of the Exhibition World Bahrain.
Zeth Gabriel Bueno and Lyle Anie Ngina impressed in the individual wai kru events, claiming gold in their respective categories.
Bueno scored 9.17 to top the boys’ 14-15 wai kru final, edging out Thailand’s Daonuea Phuangmali, who earned 9.0 points for silver, and Malaysia’s Jaethan Jonathan Quan, who took bronze with 8.53 points.
Ngina followed with 9.0 points in the girls’ 14-15 wai kru, ahead of Malaysia’s Auryelle Xzandra Bobby (8.8) and Thailand’s Kittima Yotsombat (8.6).
The Philippines’ third gold came from the team mai muay final, where Jan Brix Ramiscal and Tyron Jamborillo scored 9.20 to claim the top podium spot.
The United Arab Emirates’ Yousef Rakan and Aziz Alhammadi earned silver with 8.30, while Malaysia’s Bethany Yun Yunn Lai and Jaethan Jonathan Quan took bronze with 8.27.
Ramiscal experienced both joy and heartbreak, narrowly missing gold in the boys’ 16-17 final.
He and Thailand’s Pimpichien Chaiwan both averaged 9.23, but Chaiwan’s lowest judge score of 92 edged out Ramiscal’s 91. Iraq’s Sajjad Hamzah Ali Rabeeh rounded out the podium with 8.47 points.
In the girls’ 16-17 final, Jasmine Dagame earned silver with 8.93 points, while Thailand’s Rungthipwa Koakaw topped the event with 9.17.
Malaysia’s Ariesya Dania Binti Abdul Latip completed the podium with bronze, scoring 8.63.
