The Premier Volleyball League and Spikers’ Turf are taking their 10th-season festivities outside Metro Manila, with Cebu set to host the landmark opening on October 10.
Sports Vision Management Group, Inc. will stage the season launch at the newly opened SM Seaside Cebu Arena, bringing the country’s top volleyball leagues to the Queen City of the South for a milestone celebration.
The Cebu event will feature a triple-header, including two PVL matches. Choco Mucho and Capital1 will kick off the action at 1:00 PM, while Creamline and Akari are scheduled to meet at 6:00 PM.
A Spikers’ Turf match will complete the day’s slate, adding another marquee matchup to the historic opening.
Holding the season launch in Cebu reflects the growing influence of the Visayas in Philippine volleyball. The region has become an increasingly important source of talent for both the women’s and men’s professional leagues.
Among the PVL players with Cebuano roots are Choco Mucho stars Sisi Rondina of Compostela, Deanna Wong of Minglanilla, and Isa Molde of Catmon. Creamline’s Barbie Jamili, Capital1’s Khy Cepada, Farm Fresh’s Lorene Toring and Pierre Abellana, Nxled’s Krich Macaslang, and PLDT’s Shiela Kiseo are also products of Cebu.
The men’s game has likewise benefited from the region’s talent pool, with former Cignal standout Edward Ybañez and VNS’ Jayvee Sumagaysay among those who have represented the Visayas in the Spikers’ Turf.
Sports Vision has also strengthened its presence in the region through grassroots and developmental programs.
The V-League Visayas was introduced last year, bringing together six men’s and six women’s collegiate teams from Cebu and schools affiliated with the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. The regional competition was followed by the Panay-Negros tournament in Passi City, Iloilo, which was held last July to provide another avenue for developing players in the Visayas.
Those initiatives have helped establish the region as an important pathway for young athletes looking to eventually compete at the professional level.
The timing of the Cebu season launch therefore carries added weight as the PVL and Spikers’ Turf mark a decade of competition.
The SM Seaside Cebu Arena, which broke ground in 2021 and opened to the public last July, will serve as the backdrop for the milestone celebration.
Sports Vision is expecting strong support from Cebu’s volleyball community as it brings the league’s biggest opening-day festivities to the Visayas.
More than simply marking 10 seasons, the Cebu launch represents the continued expansion of Philippine volleyball — and the sport’s growing footprint well beyond Metro Manila.
