More than a decade after their historic showdown, Manny Pacquiao is stepping back into the ring with one goal in mind — redemption.
The Filipino icon will face longtime rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a rematch on Saturday, Sept. 19, streaming live globally on Netflix from the state-of-the-art Sphere in Las Vegas.
The event marks the first boxing match ever staged at the groundbreaking venue.
For Pacquiao, the fight is more than just another blockbuster payday.
It is a chance to settle unfinished business stemming from their May 2015 encounter — dubbed the “Fight of the Century” — which became the highest-grossing bout in boxing history. That night, Mayweather claimed a unanimous decision to unify the WBA, WBC, and WBO welterweight titles.
Eleven years later, Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) believes the story is far from over.
“It’s been 11 years since Floyd and I gave the world what is still the biggest fight in boxing history,” Pacquiao said. “The fans have waited long enough. They deserve this rematch, which will be even bigger since it will be streamed live globally on Netflix.
“I want Floyd to be forever haunted by the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him. As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world, and to bring glory to the Philippines.”
Mayweather, for his part, remains as confident as ever.
“I already fought and beat Manny once,” Mayweather said. “This time will be the same result.”
Now 47, Pacquiao returns to boxing’s grand stage as its only eight-division world champion — a distinction that cements his place among the sport’s greatest.
Over a career that has spanned four decades, the pride of the Philippines captured 12 major world titles and became the oldest welterweight world champion at age 40.
While Mayweather retired in 2017 with a pristine 50-0 record, Pacquiao’s résumé is built on daring to chase greatness across weight classes and generations.
The rematch offers him an opportunity to rewrite the final chapter of their rivalry and deliver what he feels was left unfinished in their first encounter.
The bout is organized and produced by EverWonder Studio, Hidden Empire, and Limitless X Holdings, with promotions handled by Manny Pacquiao Promotions, Mayweather Promotions, and CSI Sports/Fight Sports.
