Caloocan Batang Kankaloo decided not to appear for its scheduled game against Biñan Tatak Gel on Saturday, resulting in a 20-0 forfeiture victory for the latter in the MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) at the jam-packed Polomolok Gymnasium.
Caloocan announced earlier in the day that it would not participate in the game to protest a league decision to bring back suspended referees that they alleged caused them to lose a crucial game last month.
“Today, September 5, we regret to inform you that Caloocan Batang Kankaloo will be unable to participate in its scheduled game in Polomolok,” the team said in a statement.
“This decision was made with great difficulty by the management, and we extend our sincere apologies to those who had anticipated witnessing our team’s performance.”
Caloocan also assured its fans that it remained committed to supporting the MPBL and contributing to the promotion and development of Philippine basketball.
The non-appearance dropped the Batang Kankaloo to 18-4 and third place in the North Division. Meanwhile, Biñan improved to 20-4 to move into second in the South Division.
With the scheduled game unable to push through, the Cebu Greats stepped in on very short notice. The team flew in via Davao on Saturday morning to play an exhibition game against Biñan and entertain the more than 8,000 fans who packed the venue.

MPBL Founder and Chairman Manny Pacquiao also arrived from General Santos City, drawing cheers from the crowd gathered for the league’s games, which were held as part of Polomolok’s fiesta celebrations.
Commissioner Emmer Oreta thanked Polomolok Mayor Bernie Palencia for the warm reception extended to the participating teams, including airfare, accommodation, and local transportation, as well as the MPBL staff.
Oreta and Operations Head Zaldy Realubit also acknowledged Cebu Greats head Sam Lato and manager Jun Santos, along with the Binan Tatak Gel organization, for agreeing to provide an alternative attraction for the thousands of fans from Polomolok, other parts of South Cotabato and General Santos City.
Oreta said the league will invite the Caloocan Batang Kankaloo management to explain its side regarding the team’s non-appearance.
The MPBL returns to the Paco Arena on Monday, with Sarangani facing Quezon City at 3:00 PM, Imus taking on Rizal at 5:00 PM, and Ilagan Isabela battling Valenzuela at 7:00 PM.
