The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League slapped Caloocan with a P5 million fine following the team’s forfeiture of its scheduled game against the Biñan Tatak Gel on September 5 in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
The league announced the sanctions on Friday, a day after Caloocan returned to action but absorbed an 81-59 loss to the Abra Solid North Weavers.
The Batang Kankaloo were also barred from hosting home games for the remainder of the 2026 regular season and eliminations, while the MPBL warned that any future infraction could result in more serious penalties.
“The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) has imposed sanctions on the Caloocan Batang Kankaloo following the team’s forfeiture of its scheduled game against the Biñan Tatak Gel last September 5, 2026, in Polomolok, South Cotabato,” the league said.
The MPBL said it considered the forfeiture a serious matter because of its impact on the league and its stakeholders.
Caloocan returned to the court on Thursday evening against Abra, but struggled to keep pace with the Weavers, who pulled away for the 22-point victory.
The loss came amid a turbulent stretch for the Batang Kankaloo, who will now have to play the rest of their regular-season schedule without home games.
The MPBL emphasized that its sanctions were imposed to ensure that franchise owners remain accountable for their obligations to the league, its stakeholders, and, most importantly, its fans.
The league also issued a stern warning to Caloocan that another infraction could lead to heavier punishment.
