Nic Cabanero has rewritten the MPBL record books.
The rookie out of the University of Santo Tomas erupted for 53 points as Biñan Tatak Gel routed Pasig, 121-79, in the 2026 MPBL Season on Thursday at the Alonte Sports Arena.
Cabanero surpassed the previous scoring record of 50 points, set by Jeff Viernes in Sarangani’s 134-123 double-overtime victory over Nueva Ecija on June 3, 2023.
Unlike Viernes, Cabanero did not need 50 minutes of action to break the record.
A layup with 4:22 remaining gave Cabanero his 51st and 52nd points of the game, breaking the record, before another drive to the basket with 2:41 left became his final basket of the contest.
In the end, Cabanero tallied a triple-double as he also grabbed 22 rebounds and dished 10 assists.
The victory allowed Biñan to finish the elimination round atop the South Division with a 21-4 record.
Homegrown player Ryan Sual added 16 points for Biñan.
Pasig, which fell to 11-12 and seventh place in the North Division, was led by Michael Lambino with 17 points and Jacob Galicia with 16.
