Quezon bounces back against Biñan to level MPBL South Finals

Quezon Province exacted revenge on Biñan Tatak Gel, 74-54, on Thursday to even the SportsPlus MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) 2026 Season South Division Finals at one game apiece at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.

Powered by Alvin Abundo, the Huskers unleashed an 11-point run in the fourth quarter to put the game beyond reach, building a 71-50 lead with four minutes and 23 seconds remaining to return the favor against Biñan.

Biñan had relied on an 18-2 scoring run in the fourth quarter to beat Quezon, 83-74, in Game 1 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Huskers and Tatak Gel will look to break the deadlock in Game 3 of the best-of-five series at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

Abundo scored eight of his 14 points in the final period while adding two assists to claim the SportsPlus Best Player honors over Cholo Anonuevo, who finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, and two assists.

Joshua Yerro provided 10 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, while Jolo Manansala also chipped in 10 points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Biñan drew 15 points and four rebounds from Nic Cabanero, but no other player reached double figures, with Kenny Rocacurva finishing with eight points.

An 11-2 run allowed the Huskers to seize control, extending their lead to 46-33 with 5:26 remaining in the third quarter.

Biñan’s Renzo Subido knocked down a triple, but Yerro answered with one of his own to give Quezon a 16-11 lead after the opening period.

Quezon later stretched its advantage to 31-17 before Biñan mounted an 11-point rally, highlighted by three consecutive three-pointers—two from Cabanero and one from Pamboy Raymundo—to cut the deficit to 31-30. However, Manansala scored inside to restore Quezon’s three-point cushion at 33-30.

Meanwhile, the North Division Finals between top-seeded Abra Solid North Weavers and second-seeded San Juan Knights will begin on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Gov. Andres Bernos Memorial Gymnasium in Bangued, Abra.
