Carlos Alvarez’s return scrapped from ONE Friday Fights 82

Filipino fans will need to exercise patience as it may take a while before they see Carlos Alvarez back in action.

Tiebreaker Times has learned from multiple reliable ONE Championship representatives that the highly touted prospect’s scheduled featherweight MMA bout at ONE Friday Fights 82 on October 4 has been scratched from the lineup.

His opponent, Mirza Aliev, was forced to withdraw from the contest due to undisclosed health issues, making it impossible for the match to proceed.

Though the news is disappointing, there’s a silver lining for the 25-year-old Baguio City native.

“The Limitless” has already been assigned a new opposition for a later event, ensuring he’ll still have the chance to step back into the ring before the year ends.

However, his supporters will have to wait a little longer than expected.

For Alvarez, the delay comes at a crucial time in his career. He has been on a mission to regain momentum after a difficult loss late last year.

The Team Lakay member began his stint under the ONE Friday Fights banner with an impressive three-fight winning streak.

As Alvarez appeared to be on the cusp of finally earning a $100,000 contract and a main roster spot, he suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Nachyn Sat via a second-round technical knockout in December 2023.

While it’s undoubtedly frustrating for Alvarez to have his comeback delayed, there’s still plenty of hope for his redemption bid to take shape.

Tiebreaker Times will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates on Alvarez’s next appearance.
