Robin Catalan, CFS reach out to neighbors in Makati

With no sports events scheduled for the near future, athletes all over the world have taken a hit when it comes to their livelihood.

But that has not stopped the Catalan Fighting System athletes from giving what they have to those in need.

Led by ONE Championship strawweight Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan, the team went around the community in Barangay Tejeros, Makati City to give food to displaced families.

Coming from a tough life himself, Catalan easily empathized with those people.

“We went around our neighborhood because there are a few families there who live on the streets – literally,” Catalan said.

“All of us on the team came from poverty, we all grew up in the provinces, so we all know what it feels like.”

What makes the gesture more touching is that the team itself is living day-to-day.

The younger of the Catalan brothers said that what they gave out came from the very relief packs given to them.

But despite the tough times they are in, Catalan knows it pays to help out, no matter how small the gesture.

“Right now, to be honest, we have no source of income, but knowing what they’re going through, we had to act,” Catalan said.

“It just so happened that there are some relief packs from our barangay, so we thought of sharing it with the families who live on the streets near our gym, so we can also be a blessing to others.”

The hard-hitting strawweight last left the Circle with a knockout win over Gustavo “El Gladiador” Balart at ONE: Masters of Fate in November at the Mall Of Asia Arena, making him one of the hottest athletes in the division.

And while there is still no word as to when his next match will be, he has already proven to be a winner outside of the Circle with his initiative.
