ONE 157: Ellipitua Siregar too much for Robin Catalan

Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan fell victim to another submission loss, this time by the hands of Elipitua “The Magician” Siregar at ONE 157: Petchmorakot vs. Vienot on Friday, 20 May, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

It was a good start for the Filipino striker as he forced the Indonesian to fight on his heels. And while Catalan defended Siregar’s first few attempts to take the match to the ground, “The Magician” eventually found a way to get the fight to the canvas.

Once there, Siregar grabbed a hold of Catalan’s neck and sunk in anaconda choke, and before long the Catalan Fighting System representative found himself tapping. It was an unfortunate outing for “The Ilonggo” as he dropped his second straight loss.

In the main event, Petchmorakot Petchyindee retained the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Title as he survived Jimmy Vienot, though it didn’t come easy.

A knockdown in the fourth round may have been the difference Petchmorakot needed as he had to fend off a spirited performance from Vienot.

In the co-main event, it was upset-mania as Joseph Lasiri was crowned the new ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion after stopping Prajanchai PK. Saenchai.

Prajanchai had to retire on his stool after the third round as he was overwhelmed by the Italian heavy hitter’s feracious assault.

The ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix also kicked off in style as World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon booked a spot in the semifinals of the tournament by dominating Jacob Smith.

Waiting for him there is the very impressive Savvas Michael, who ran over Amir Naseri on the lead card.

Walter Goncalves had the lone finish in the tournament, needing only under a minute to stop Josue Cruz in the very first round to book a date with tournament favorite Superlek Kiatmoo9 in the semifinals.

Superlek proved why a lot of people felt he was the favorite to win it all as he ran roughshod on Taiki Naito in the other quarterfinal pairing.
