Filipina atomweight Jomary Torres did not let nerves get in her way, submitting the heavily favored Thai fighter Rika “Tinydoll” Ishige (2-1) in the second round in the preliminary portion of ONE Championship: Kings and Conquerors, Saturday evening at the Cotai Arena in Macao.
Torres, who was just in her second pro fight, was able to keep her composure in the opening round, going toe-to-toe with her 28-year-old opponent. However, Ishige was able to take her down multiple times during the round and was almost trapped with an armbar attempt during the first stanza of the match-up.
Getting a feel of her opponent, the 21-year-old Filipina was the more aggressive fighter, catching Ishige’s kick and then launching a combination of kicks and punches. She was then able to take down her opponent soon after.
After a few transitions, the Zamboanga-native was able to secure her opponent’s back and landed punches as she waited for her opening.
Torres found the moment she was looking for after the Thai tried to throw punches at her back. It left Ishige’s neck prone for a rear naked choke which Tores gladly saw, sinking the choke tightly that resulted in a tap out victory just 1:58 seconds in the second stanza.
