Another game, another triple-double for Terrence Jones.
The NBA veteran on Sunday put up 36 points, 16 rebounds, and 14 assists with three blocks and a steal to power TNT past Blackwater, 115-97, to earn their seventh consecutive victory in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
It marked the second straight game that Jones posted a triple-double. Just last Wednesday, the 27-year-old had 33 points, 21 boards, and 13 dimes to lead the Katropa’s 102-81 demolition of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Jones already has three triple-doubles under his belt, becoming the first player in team history to post at least three triple-doubles in the same conference since Silas Mills did it in 1998, as per the league’s stats head Fidel Mangonon III.
But for Jones, such doesn’t matter to him. All that he really cares about is helping TNT rack up victories.
“I’m not worried about that,” said the Kentucky product moments after the win — their ninth win in 10 outings.
“I’m just happy we’re winning games and we’re looking like we’re building our chemistry for the playoffs.”
Speaking of the playoffs, the KaTropa will be advancing in the next round armed with a twice-to-beat advantage, which had been something that the flagship MVP franchise has not done since the 2017 Governors’ Cup.
And, of course, Jones is a major reason behind it. He has now become one of the Texters’ leaders, and the 2012 US NCAA champion with the Wildcats is grateful that his teammates have given him the chance to become such.
“I think it’s come to them listening and understanding that I have a little experience on what it takes to try to win and be a good teammate,” he said.
“They listened and understood that and we’ve been having fun ever since.”
