Pauloxpert says language barrier the reason behind Markyyyyy’s benching

Bigetron Alpha’s technical coach Paulo “Pauloxpert” Munsayac has finally cleared the air regarding Marky “Markyyyyy” Capacio’s benching in MPL Indonesia Season 11.

The former Bren Esports assistant coach revealed that the language barrier was the main reason why the Filipino import barely saw any action in Bigetron Alpha’s Season 11 campaign, which eventually ended at the hands of Alter Ego in the first round of the playoffs.

“They think that communication was an issue since Marky’s Bahasa Indo is not that good, kaya mainly pinasok yung si Saken, which is the other gold laner,” Pauloxpert told reporters during a press conference at the Shooting Gallery Studios last Saturday.

Markyyyyy stepped up in his debut season in MPL Indonesia Season 10, helping Bigetron Alpha finish fourth, one place higher than their 5th-6th place campaign in Season Nine. The ex-ONIC PH standout was also a contender for the Best Gold Laner award in Season 10 before eventually finding himself at the end of Bigetron Alpha’s rotation in Season 11, where he surrendered the starting gold lane spot to Dicky “Saken” Cahyana.

Bigetron Alpha squandered a 2-1 advantage in the play-ins against Alter Ego en route to a 2-3 loss that dropped them to 5th-6th place anew.

“I don’t know what Bigetron is planning yet in terms of the roster, so ‘di ko alam kung makakapaglaro ba siya next season or is he gonna be playing with BTR for next season kasi nga nabangko siya and he is a foreign player,” revealed Pauloxpert.

“Usually, the foreign players that you are acquiring, you want them to play because you’re investing so much money in them, so it’s best for them to play. Pero ‘pag hindi siya naglalaro, parang alam mo yun, BTR might have some other thoughts to do something with Marky,” he added.

Pauloxpert, who has been at the receiving end of Filipino fans’ ire due to Markyyyyy’s playing status, also made it clear that it was not his decision to bench the 24-year-old former WoRk standout.

“Just to clarify things, I’m the technical coach. So I don’t really pick who gets to play and stuff like that. I can only suggest on who to play. There are three of us in the coaching staff, and pretty much the majority wins, so kung sino yung pinili ng two out of one, yun yung maglalaro.”
