MPL ID: Markyyyyy provides spark, lifts Geek Fam to highest finish in franchise history

Filipino stars Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy and Marky “Markyyyyy” Capacio helped Geek Fam secure a third-place finish in MPL Indonesia Season 12 on Thursday night.

With the win, Geek Fam already surpassed its 5th-6th place finish in the previous season after placing 7th-8th place in its first seven seasons in the league.

Geek Fam, who spent the last couple of years in the MPL ID cellar, is set to make its first upper bracket finals appearance after taking down perennial powerhouse RRQ Hoshi via a reverse 3-2 sweep in the upper bracket semifinals at the Mahaka Square.

After dropping the first two games of the series, Geek Fam decided to insert Markyyyyy into the starting unit to try and turn the series around.

The Filipino gold laner gladly repaid the trust, putting up three kills without a death in the 8-5 Game 3 win after 13 minutes and 12 seconds to extend his team’s life.

Markyyyyy then unleashed eight kills and three assists against two deaths on Karrie in a dominant 17-9 Game 4 triumph that sent the game to a decider.

In the winner-take-all Game 5, Geek Fam had the opportunity to close out the series twice but RRQ Hoshi’s Rendy “Dyrennn” Syahputra (Terizla) managed to withstand a one-against-four siege to keep his team in the game.

However, Geek Fam managed to score a four-man wipe entering the 24th minute and secure the Lord to finish off the King of Kings.

The former ONIC PH standout had eight kills, four deaths, and 10 assists on Irithel while Baloyskie had a 2-5-17 KDA line on Ruby in almost 26 minutes of action.
