M5: Onic Esports dominates in debut as Team SMG, Geek Fam fall

On the opening day of the M5 World Championship on Saturday at the EVM Convention Center in Quezon City, Onic Esports emerged as the sole team featuring Filipino imports.

This as Team SMG and Geek Fam ID suffered losses.

The reigning MPL Indonesia champions swiftly defeated the Brazilian squad Bigetron Sons.

They secured the fastest win in the tournament during Game 1 and showcased their dominance in Game 2.

Nicky “Kiboy” Pontonuwu (Mathilda) played a pivotal role, providing the necessary aggression and mobility for Onic Esports to complete the sweep.

Onic Esports, coached by Denver “Yeb” Miranda, has Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol as the team’s main jungler.

Earlier in the day, Team SMG, led by Filipino imports Deomark “Mikko” Tabangay and Kenneth “Saxa” Fedelin, faced two closely contested losses against the Turkish squad Fire Flux Esports.

Despite efforts from Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy and Mark “Markyyyyy” Capacio, Geek Fam ID couldn’t secure a win, falling victim to a 2-0 sweep against the defending MPL Malaysia Champions HomeBois.

Blacklist International, the M3 World Champions, is set to make their debut tomorrow as they face RRQ Akira of MPL Brazil.
