Terrence Romeo bids farewell to SMB: ‘Saddest moment of my career’

For Terrence Romeo, basketball has always been a world of highs and lows.

But his recent trade to Terrafirma – ending a seven-year tenure with the San Miguel Beermen – is a chapter he describes as the “saddest moment” of his illustrious career.

The trade saw Romeo and Vic Manuel join Terrafirma in exchange for Juami Tiongson and Andreas Cahilig.

While the move offers new opportunities, Romeo’s heartfelt goodbye to his San Miguel family revealed the depth of his bond with the franchise.

In a social media post that resonated with fans, Romeo reflected on his time with the Beermen, where he achieved three PBA championships.

“Probably isa sa pinaka sad moment ng career ko pero ganun talaga, walang permanent sa basketball world,” Romeo wrote.

“Importante yung happy memories and achievements natin at mga learnings na hindi na mawawala.”

Romeo went on to thank the teammates, coaches, staff, and bosses who shaped his San Miguel journey.

“Masaya ako na nakasama kayo sa seven years ko na paglalaro sa San Miguel. Sa aking mga coaches, maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat, especially coach Leo for allowing me to showcase my talent para makatulong sa team,” he said.

Romeo also credited the franchise for helping him grow, not just as a player but as a person.

“Maraming salamat po Boss RSA… habang buhay po akong tatanaw ng utang na loob sa inyo,” he added, addressing San Miguel Corporation head Ramon S. Ang.

Romeo’s move to Terrafirma marks a new chapter in his career.

Romeo was traded by TNT to San Miguel in December 2018, where he quickly became a key piece of the team’s success.

Known for his scoring prowess, he helped San Miguel secure three titles.

Now, Romeo transitions to a rebuilding Terrafirma squad, where he hopes to be a stabilizing presence.

Despite the bittersweet goodbye, he expressed optimism about the journey ahead.

“Thank you, Terrafirma, sa pag-welcome sakin. Sana makatulong ako sainyo. Let’s get it!” he wrote in a separate post.

The trade shakes up the dynamics for both teams.

For Terrafirma, Romeo’s arrival alongside Manuel adds a wealth of experience and leadership to their roster.

Meanwhile, San Miguel gains younger talents in Tiongson and Cahilig, injecting fresh energy into a franchise aiming to remain a perennial contender.

The deal also reunites Romeo with Stanley Pringle, his former backcourt partner at NorthPort, a partnership that drew excitement during their earlier PBA days.

Romeo helped the Beermen secure titles but also became a fan favorite.

“Good luck SMB sa lahat ng games. I wish the team all the best. See you guys around!”
