PBA: San Miguel rolls past Macau in rain-delayed 52-point rout

In a game that should have just been postponed, San Miguel dealt Macau a 131-79 humiliation to build another winning streak in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on a rainy Saturday night at the Ynares Center II in Montalban.

The game was twice delayed in the first quarter due to a roof leak, but the league ultimately pushed through—a situation similar to what happened 24 hours ago at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium that saw Magnolia blast Meralco, 105-88

As officials deemed it best to continue despite the southwest monsoon’s rampage, the Beermen buckled down to business, finishing the period with a 15-point lead before pouring 45 in the second for a massive 80-37 lead at the half.

By then, the bout had turned into a snoozefest, with the traditional contenders breaching the century mark, 101-50, still with 2:57 left in the third canto behind a Don Trollano triple, as the Giant Pandas practically gave up.

“We’re so glad na natapos ‘yung game despite the drops dahil sa rain,” said head coach Leo Austria. “We’re glad natapos ito in a nice way for us.”

George King finished with 19 points to lead San Miguel, which won its second win in a row and improved to 6-2 in Group A, still sitting behind the 6-1 NLEX.

Trollano supplied 17 points and six rebounds, Jericho Cruz made 14 points and five assists, with Jeron Teng making 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists as he truly made the most of the 24 minutes he was utilized by Austria.

Marcio Lassiter and JM Calma added 12 markers apiece, as a total of six players finished in double figures in the extremely lopsided affair.

“One thing I discovered again, katulad nung last game (against Converge), is our balanced scoring,” Austria said. “Mas malaki rin iniscore ng bench namin (84) kaysa sa starters namin, and that’s what we’ve been projecting.”

San Miguel will look to make it three in a row when it battles another cellar-dweller in Titan Ultra this Wednesday, August 12, in Antipolo.
