After a disappointing campaign in the lower division, Talon Esports mutually parted ways with Filipino carry Kim “Gabbi” Villafuerte on Wednesday afternoon.
Also departing the squad is skipper Tal “Fly” Aizik.
“Today, we are mutually parting ways with our Dota 2 players, Fly and Gabbi as we head into the DPC Winter Tour offseason,” read the statement.
“The ongoing impact of COVID-19 on travel restrictions in SEA has been a challenge for our players and we are proud to have them finish our first tour in Thailand together.”
Talon Esports entered the Dota Pro Circuit by building a roster centered on the two, however, the lineup that was supposed to top the second division underperformed all throughout Season One.
The team ended its stint at fifth place after posting a dismal 3-4 standing.
“Given how COVID-19 has already affected the competitive scene, we believe both players and management should share the same mindset and values to navigate through the remainder of this year. The ever-changing circumstances haven’t allowed all parties to align optimally, thus Fly and Gabbi have safely returned home and will be allowed to seek new teams, effective immediately,” the statement continued.
“Our organizations strive to put our teams in the best position to excel and win, supporting our players whilst trusting our guidance in return. We greatly appreciate the sacrifice and dedication of both individuals and wish them nothing but the best going forward. We will be taking this time to reevaluate our roster and will be competing in the upcoming DPC SEA Tour,” the statement ended.
Talon Esports was supposed to set camp in the Philippines but travel restrictions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic halted the team’s plans.
Instead, the team set up camp in Thailand where they finished the remainder of the season after starting the year in different locations.
Still with the squad are Brizio Adi “Hyde” Putra Budiana, Rafli “Mikoto” Fathur Rahman, and Damien “kpii” Chok.
