The House of Representatives has commended sports patron Mikee Romero, tennis sensation Alex Eala, and the Philippine Men’s Curling Team through a series of resolutions recognizing their contributions to elevating Philippine sports on the international stage.
Romero, who represents the 1Pacman partylist, was honored for introducing the Philippines to the world of polo.
He led his team, GlobalPort, to a historic victory in one of the sport’s most prestigious tournaments.
GlobalPort pulled off a gutsy 15–10 upset over defending champion Park Place in the CV Whitney Cup held in Wellington, Florida—marking the first time an Asia-based team competed in and won the event.
“It was a historic win for GlobalPort and an even greater milestone for Honorable Romero, who became the first Filipino player to score a goal in the opening leg of the prestigious Gauntlet of Polo series,” the resolution stated.
Now serving his final term in Congress, Romero was also recognized for his long-standing support of Philippine sports, including basketball, volleyball, and baseball, as well as his leadership in the development of polo nationwide.
Similarly, 19-year-old Alex Eala was commended for bringing pride to the country by becoming the first Filipina to break into the Top 100 of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.
Her impressive run at the 2025 Miami Open solidified her place in international tennis. Eala also made her debut in the main draw of the French Open this year.
Also earning praise was the Philippine Men’s Curling Team, which captured the country’s first-ever gold medal in the 9th Asian Winter Games held last February in Harbin, China.
