ONIC Philippines kept its back-to-back championship hopes alive after surviving a grueling five-game series against Twisted Minds, 3-2, to secure a spot in the upper bracket of the MPL Philippines Season 15 playoffs on Wednesday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.
With the victory, the Sonics have set up a rematch against Aurora — their opponents in last season’s grand finals.
King “K1NGKONG” Perez (Joy) opened the series on a high note, earning MVP honors in Game 1 with a strong stat line of four kills and four assists while only conceding one death in a 15-minute victory.
In Game 2, the defending champions staged a thrilling comeback from a 3,000-gold deficit. The rally was sparked by Frince “Super Frince” Ramirez (Selena), whose pinpoint Abyssal Arrows during the crucial 10th-minute Lord fight connected on multiple enemy heroes, resulting in a 3-0 pickoff and a secured Lord.
Ramirez’s arrows proved clutch once again in the 18th minute, helping ONIC secure a 4-1 trade and push the series to match point.
Twisted Minds fought back to force a deciding Game 5, but ONIC responded with a dominant performance in the decider to seal the hard-fought series and advance.
