Mike Reyes replaces Denok Miranda as FEU basketball program director

After a turbulent few months, Far Eastern University’s basketball program is entering a new chapter.

And the school is hoping they’ve found the right man for the job to lead the way.

Mike Reyes, the brother of TNT head coach Chot Reyes, has been appointed as FEU’s new basketball program director, replacing Denok Miranda.

The Tamaraws made the announcement on social media on Tuesday.

Reyes is a decorated coach in his own right, having previously handled University of San Carlos and Southwestern University in the CESAFI.

In 2019, he led the SWU Cobras to a CESAFI championship. Two years later, he guided KCS Computer Specialist–Mandaue City to the Visayas leg title in the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup.

However, SWU later disbanded its athletics program in the aftermath of the pandemic.

Reyes was then tapped to coach the Cebu Classic for the 2025 MPBL season. Unfortunately, due to the team’s financial struggles, his stint was cut short after only a few games.

Now, he finds a new home in FEU, where he will also serve as the head coach of the FEU-Diliman Baby Tamaraws.

He replaces Miranda, who led both the Tamaraws and the Baby Tams over the past three years.

During his tenure with the men’s team, Miranda compiled an 8-19 win-loss record and missed the Final Four in Seasons 85 and 86.

When Sean Chambers took over the men’s program, Miranda slid into the Baby Tams’ head coaching role, replacing Allan Albano.

He led FEU-Diliman to a third-place finish in UAAP Season 87.

Moving forward, Miranda will now focus on his role as an assistant coach for the MPBL team Abra.
