Though Olsen Racela’s departure from Far Eastern University is still fresh, the school has already began its search for its next head coach.
And the one name that rose among the possible candidates is former Tamaraw Denok Miranda.
According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, the 40-year-old Miranda is the frontrunner to take the position with another FEU alumnus in Mark Isip serving as lead assistant.
Miranda was part of the FEU champion team that won UAAP Season 66 and 67.
Miranda has been an assistant coach with the Tamaraws since 2014 but only committed full-time back in Season 82.
The 5-foot-11 floor general’s first head coaching stint was in the MPBL when he steered Binan City-Luxxe Slim to a 12-18 record in the South Division.
It is still unknown whether Johnny Abarrientos applied for the job but Pipo Noundou has also expressed interest in applying for the vacant position.
Abarrientos is also an assistant coach with FEU and is currently with Magnolia while Noundou is the head coach of Enderun College.
If Miranda is chosen, his first order of business is to retain L-Jay Gonzales, Cholo Anonuevo, Xyrus Torres, and Patrick Sleat for Season 86.
The next head coach of FEU has the unenviable task of bringing back the Tamaraws to the Final Four.
