Sean Chambers is coming back to the Philippines.
The PBA icon has been appointed as the new head coach of Far Eastern University (FEU), the school announced via social media Monday.
“I am profoundly grateful and humbled by the opportunity to return to the Philippines as the Head Coach of the FEU Tamaraws,” he said in a statement.
“It is an honor to collaborate with FEU management and coaching staff, in our collective mission to reignite the winning culture at FEU,” he added.
He will be taking over the reins from Denok Miranda, who manned the sidelines in UAAP Season 86 that saw the Tamaraws finish with a 3-11 slate.
Miranda will now head the FEU basketball program and will oversee the development of all FEU basketball teams, from junior high to collegiate.
Now, the seniors’ team is definitely hoping for a fresh start under Chambers, who’s tasked to build and guide FEU back into Final Four contention.
The dribblers from Morayta have missed the semifinals in the last two seasons, where they only amassed an 8-19 win-loss record.
“I firmly believe there is ample opportunity for me to contribute to their journey towards reaching their fullest potential on and off the court,” he said.
This will be Chambers’ first head coaching gig in a country where he rose to fame for winning six PBA titles with Alaska, including a Grand Slam in 1996.
A regular Manila visitor, the one-time PBA Best Import most recently helped Jojo Lastimosa in preparing TNT for the Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup.
He previously served as Dean of Students for Fern Bacon Middle School in Sacramento, California while also coaching at the youth level.
