CEU makes history with inaugural UCAL street dance title

Centro Escolar University made history in the Universities and Colleges Athletic League-PGFlex Season 7 by winning the inaugural street dance competition before a jubilant crowd on Thursday, October 17, at the Paco Arena in Manila.

The Scorpions delivered a powerful performance, showcasing exceptional synchronization, fluid transitions between movements, quality footwork, creativity, and diverse dance styles. Their impressive routine earned them a score of 270.5 points, narrowly surpassing the Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas by just three points.

“We prepared for one month for this winning routine. All we can say is that we truly are God’s powerful champions,” said CEU coach Vincent Manarang. “It was worth it.”

CEU’s victory highlighted the simple yet meaningful opening ceremony of the fastest-growing collegiate league, thanks in large part to host Diliman College, which put in great effort for the traditional “palabas” that left everyone, including newcomers Immaculada Concepcion College-Caloocan and WCC Aeronautics and Technological College, in awe.

Olivarez College finished third in the competition, which garnered support from sponsors including Akari, Advance Solutions Inc., Smart Sports, Spalding, Team Rebel Sports, Quintana Sports, Crane Faucet, Hapee Toothpaste, Jiang Nan Restaurant, Vital, and Gerry’s Grill.

In addition to the street dance win, CEU also claimed the league’s first basketball title, which now features 10 member schools.

UCAL chairman Horacio Lim announced that the men’s and women’s volleyball competitions are scheduled for Saturday, October 19, at the University of Batangas Gymnasium, with Philippine Christian University and UB aiming to defend their respective titles.

The basketball event will kick off in the second part of the academic calendar in January, with the Scorpions pursuing a three-peat.
