The PFF Women’s League title remains up for grabs following a pivotal weekend where Stallion Laguna claimed a vital win over Makati, while Kaya-Iloilo and Capital1 battled to a dramatic draw.
With only one or two games remaining for most teams, every point now carries championship implications.
Stallion Laguna edged Makati with a tense 1-0 victory, a result that kept their title hopes alive and placed them at the summit of the standings with 22 points.
The match’s lone goal came in sensational fashion — courtesy of none other than Stallion’s goalkeeper, Olivia McDaniel.
In the 75th minute, McDaniel stepped up to take a free kick and remarkably found the back of the net, sealing three crucial points for the Laguna-based side against a determined Makati squad already out of title contention.
Meanwhile, both Kaya-Iloilo and Capital1 entered their head-to-head clash riding high from dominant wins the previous weekend.
Kaya had blanked University of the Philippines, 5-0, despite missing several national team players due to the international window.
Capital1, nearly at full strength, dismantled University of Santo Tomas with a resounding 12-1 victory.
Julissa Cisneros continued her scoring spree for Kaya, netting her fourth consecutive hat-trick to take the lead in the Golden Boot race with 12 goals.
Close behind is Capital1’s Judie Arevalo, who surged to 10 goals after bagging five in their rout of UST.
Heading into their much-anticipated showdown, Kaya and Capital1 were level on points and locked in a battle for second place.
As expected, the match was tightly contested.
It was Capital1’s Regine Rebosura who finally broke the deadlock in the 90th minute, getting the better of Kaya keeper Inna Palacios.
But the drama didn’t end there.
Deep into stoppage time, Joyce Onrubia latched onto a pinpoint pass from Camille Rodriguez to equalize, salvaging a crucial point for Kaya.
With the draw, Stallion Laguna holds the top spot with 22 points going into their final — and potentially title-deciding — match against Kaya-Iloilo (19 pts) on Saturday, June 14 at 7:45 PM at the Mall of Asia Football Pitch.
Capital1, also with 19 points, will have their fate decided earlier that same day when they take on Makati (13 pts) at 5:00 PM.
