San Miguel is switching imports a little over a week before the 2024 PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Beermen are bringing in Jordan Adams to take the place of original choice Tauras Jogela, team manager Gee Abanilla confirmed to Tiebreaker Times.
It was the coaches’ decision to make the change, as part of their plan to devise SMB’s scheme of things with the controversial four-point shot in mind.
“Coaches opted for a different strategy because of the 4-point shot,” the long-time franchise executive wrote in a text message on Wednesday.
A former NBA player with Memphis, Adams is fresh off a stint with Dewa United in the recently concluded 2024 Indonesia Basketball League (IBL).
There, he was teammates with Lester Prosper, but the team bowed out of the semifinals against eventual runners-up Satria Muda Pertamina.
Satria Muda lost to Justin Brownlee and Pelita Jaya in the best-of-3 finale.
Adams finished the season with averages of 22.9 points and 7.4 rebounds, showing the prolific scoring that he’s been known for since his UCLA days.
The 30-year-old, who’s listed at 6-foot-5, was one of the league’s top shooters last season, which he proved by winning the IBL All-Star 3-Point Contest.
Now, he will be bringing to San Miguel the experiences he also garnered from stops in Syria, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
