Petro Gazz battled past ZUS Coffee in a hard-fought four-set victory, 25-20, 24-26, 28-26, 25-22, securing its sixth straight win in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena.
Brooke Van Sickle and Myla Pablo once again led the charge for the surging Angels, who had to navigate tough stretches in the second and third sets before closing out the match in the fourth.
With the win, Petro Gazz improved to 7-1 in the standings.
Van Sickle delivered a dominant performance, scoring 27 points on 25 attacks and two aces while also tallying 15 excellent digs and five receptions.
Pablo, meanwhile, recorded her best outing of the conference with 22 points, including 19 attacks and three blocks.
“I would say that our consistency and teamwork have been key. We’re doing a great job staying together, and it doesn’t matter who comes in—we’re playing as one. We’re staying patient, staying calm, and believing in ourselves,” said Van Sickle, the reigning All-Filipino Conference MVP.
Locked in a 16-all tie in the fourth set, Petro Gazz capitalized on ZUS Coffee’s errors, forcing a four-point swing to grab a 20-16 lead.
The Thunderbelles struggled to recover, exchanging points with the Angels until Pablo and Van Sickle sealed the win with Petro Gazz’s final four points. The match lasted two hours and 18 minutes.
The duo also played a crucial role in the intense third set, where Van Sickle went on a personal 3-1 run to turn a 23-24 deficit into a 26-25 lead.
Though Djanel Cheng’s error briefly tied the score at 26-all, Pablo stepped up with back-to-back kills to give Petro Gazz a 2-1 set advantage.
Petro Gazz will look to extend its winning streak to seven when it takes on the struggling Capital1 on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at the same venue.
Meanwhile, ZUS Coffee, which entered the match on a two-game winning streak, fell to 4-5, now tied with sister team Farm Fresh for eighth place.
Kate Santiago led the Thunderbelles with 21 points and 10 digs, while Troncoso added 19 points, including 16 attacks and three blocks.
ZUS Coffee will attempt to bounce back against Cignal on February 13 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
