PVL cancels Santiago City showdown due to ‘Maymay’

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) has cancelled its On Tour Showdown scheduled for Saturday, August 8, at the Santiago Sports Arena in the City of Santiago due to the effects of Tropical Depression Maymay (Kujira).

The league said the decision was made to ensure the safety of fans, athletes, team personnel, officials, and everyone involved in the event. The cancelled doubleheader was set to feature ZUS Coffee against PLDT Home Fiber in the opening match, followed by Capital1 taking on Creamline.

Travel disruptions also played a role in the decision, with flights to Isabela having been cancelled since Thursday because of the tropical depression.

PVL President Ricky Palou expressed his regret over the cancellation but emphasized that public safety remains the league’s top priority.

“We sincerely apologize to our fans in Santiago City and the rest of Isabela who were looking forward to the matches,” said Palou.

“While we share everyone’s disappointment, the safety of our fans, players, coaches, officials, and staff must always come first. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and support during this time.

Palou also assured volleyball fans in the province that the league remains committed to bringing top-level PVL action to the city.

“We made a promise to bring the PVL to Santiago City, and we intend to keep that promise. Although we were forced to cancel this weekend’s games because of circumstances beyond our control, we look forward to returning to Santiago during the upcoming PVL All-Filipino Conference,” he said.

The league also announced that all tickets purchased for the cancelled matches will be refunded. Additional details regarding the refund process will be announced through Ticketmax’s official channels.
