National Basketball League (NBL) is conducting a crackdown against illegal gaming following the filing of a case against two persons recently.
The league filed charges of illegal access to data under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 against Andre Labor Barroga and Mario Franco of Data Centric last weekend before Sta. Rosa Police.
The two men were arrested last Sunday during a Women’s NBL game for allegedly monitoring and recording statistics and scores for use in illegal gaming. They also went to the venue as fans but with a complete set of gadgets with them.
“They were, in plain sight, using gadgets to send vital information to Data Centric Co. which on papers is a call center business but is operating as a betting company. With all of the evident circumstances submitted to the authorities, NBL Philippines believes that it has established a formidable case against Barroga and Franco,” said the league in a statement.
The league hopes that the filing of the case will also serve as an eye-opener to other leagues.
“The entire organization assures all of its loyal fans that it will fully cooperate with the authorities and to work relentlessly in its pursuit of holding these culprits accountable to justice,” said the league.
