Taguig clinched a spot in the finals of the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) with a 73-56 win over Cleon and Clyde in Game 3 on Saturday at the San Dionisio Gym in Parañaque City.
The Lady Generals moved on in winning the rubber match despite missing the services of national players Janine Pontejos and Chack Cabinbin due to their stint in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in India.
Camille Sambile and Soc Borja stepped up in the absence of their top players as the Lady Generals arranged a best-of-three finals series against the PSI-Air Force Lady Air Defenders for the first-ever WNBL crown.
Sambile had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Borja finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists as the former Far Eastern University standouts took over in the game.
The Lady Generals limited the Lady Snipers to only four points in the second quarter to seize a 29-19 lead at the half, and led by as many as 24 points in the game.
Precious Arellado and Jamie Alcoy ended up with 14 points each for the Lady Snipers, who played without Afril Bernardino, Bea Daez, and Eunique Chan also due to national team duties.
