Taguig continues its recruiting drive for the upcoming 2021 Chooks-to-Go WNBL season.
Carla Manuel has signed with the Lady Generals for the upcoming season.
Manuel, who stands at 5-foot-9, was initially drafted by the STAN Quezon Lady Spartans as the 17th overall pick in the league’s inaugural draft last February 13. However, Manuel and Quezon mutually agreed for a release that led to the signing.
What led the former UST Growling Tigress to the Lady Generals is the structure of the team led by Bing Victoria.
“Natutuwa ako sa team namin. Sobrang organized, even the coaches. Even Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, meron kaming Zoom workout, tapos kasama din namin ‘yung Generals,” she told WNBL Baseline.
“Pag-iigihan ko ‘yung mga training namin at ‘yung pinaghahandaan naming laro sa WNBL.”
In her senior year, Manuel only played three games for UST.
Still young, she has yet to show her true potential. And she hopes to unleash it come the WNBL season.
“Unti-unti po, mapapakita namin kung ano ‘yung resulta ng aming training at workout,” said Manuel, who previously played volleyball but transitioned to basketball.
Other players who have signed with Taguig include Monique Del Carmen and Chu Bacaro.
Besides this, Manuel is also part of the league’s executive committee. For that, she is grateful to the league founded by Soy Mercado for allowing the players to have a say in the league.
“Sobrang grateful kasi binigyan kami ng tiwala ng WNBL na irepresenta ang liga. ‘Yung team po namin, kanya-kanyang batuhan ng ideas kung ano magpapabuti sa liga.”
