Glutagence will no longer play out its Game Three semis tilt against Taguig in the Women’s National Basketball League-Pilipinas.
In a tough decision by the league, the WNBL board has decided to cease the participation of the Glow Boosters in the country’s first-ever professional league for women’s ballers. This, after head coach and team owner Justin Tan failed to settle league fees.
League executive vice president Rhose Montreal made the announcement during the halftime of the NBL semifinals game two tilt between Pampanga and Taguig on Sunday.
“This is to inform everyone that the Glutagence Glow Boosters’ participation in WNBL-Pilipinas shall be ceased, effective immediately,” said Montreal.
“After long and careful deliberation, the league has laid the decision due to owner and head coach Justin Tan’s inability to comply with the requirements asked of the Glow Boosters.
“WNBL has exhausted all means for Mr. Tan and the Glow Boosters to retain their participation in the league,” she continued. “Among these are the numerous extension of deadline to settle the franchise fee. The league has maintained good faith in the negotiation process but Mr. Tan was unable to comply on his end.”
Glutagence entered the playoffs as the third seed with a 4-4 record.
The Glow Boosters turned back the Lady Generals in Game One, taking a 62-53 win. Game Two then saw Glutagence routed 32-63 to force a do-or-die game.
Tan received a Friday deadline to settle all his fees to the league but was unable to do so.
Game Three was supposed to take place Sunday afternoon.
This would also mean that Taguig will face Parañaque in the finals.
“We sympathize with the hardworking players, staff, and other key Glow Boosters personnel who have given their tremendous effort to this campaign,” said Montreal.
