Pampanga Delta, Taguig Generals force rubber matches in NBL semis


Pampanga and Taguig won over separate opponents to force a rubber match for a spot in the finals of the National Basketball League (NBL) Season 2.

The Delta beat Laguna Pistons, 94-86, and the Generals defeated Parañaque Aces, 82-76, in Game Two of the best-of-three semifinals last Saturday at the San Dionisio Gym in Parañaque to tie the series at 1-1.

Game Three will be played on Saturday at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

Primo Manaloto finished with 22 points and nine rebounds as the top-seed Delta avoided an upset and will play the do-or-die game next week at home.

LJ Mayo had 19 points and seven rebounds, Kean Caballero scored 11 points, and the Generals beat the reigning champion Aces on their homecourt to stay alive in their quest for a championship.

In the WNBL, the Taguig Lady Generals advanced to the finals after beating Cleon and Clyde, 73-56, in Game 3 of the semifinals.

Camille Sambile had 16 points for the Lady Generals, who will face the PSI-Air Force Lady Air Defenders in the best-of-three championship series starting on Saturday.
