Jordan Clarkson and Christian Standhardinger were the two-man wrecking crew for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2018 Asian Games.
In his Gilas debut, Clarkson,– who stands at 6-foot-5 and plays combo guard – averaged 26.0 points on 46 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent from downtown, to go along with 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists.
On the other hand, the 6-foot-8 utility big man Standhardinger, who is in his fifth tour of duty for Gilas, posted norms of 20.6 points and 10.2 rebounds in the continental meet.
The two created symphony on the court. It was as if they had already shared the court before. And they actually have played together – just on opposite sides.
Back in November 16, 2013, Clarkson and the University of Missouri Tigers took on Standhardinger and the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in an Southeastern Conference-sanctioned contest at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
Going into the game, the Tigers were 2-0, while the Rainbow Warriors were sporting a 2-1 slate.
This was just Clarkson’s third game with Missouri after sitting out the year prior due to residency rules. Standhardinger, meanwhile, was playing his final collegiate season.
Missouri dominated Hawaii all game long for a 92-80 win.
Clarkson had 13 points on 33 percent field goal shooting in the game, to go along with three rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Standhardinger had paced Hawaii with 22 points on 75 percent shooting to go along with five rebounds.
After the season, both players entered the 2014 NBA Draft, with Clarkson ending up the 46th overall pick. Standhardinger was not drafted and settled in Germany.
In 2018, the Filipino-American and the Filipino-German would once again cross paths – this time as teammates for Gilas Pilipinas.
