POLOMOLOK, South Cotabato — With every point she scored, Chenie Tagaod could hear familiar cheers from the stands.
Making the trip from Tagum City, Davao, Tagaod’s father and brother were in attendance to witness one of the best performances of her young career as she powered Akari past Choco Mucho in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League On Tour Showdown on Saturday.
The 24-year-old outside hitter finished with 19 points on 11 attacks, six blocks, and two aces, overcoming cramps that began in the third set to help the Chargers secure a 27-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-22 victory over the Flying Titans.
For Tagaod, having her family in the stands gave her extra motivation to push through despite the physical pain.

“Siyempre, inspired ako ngayon kasi nakita ko ‘yung papa ko tsaka ‘yung kapatid ko. So, sana naging proud sila,” said the former Far Eastern University standout.
The cramps may have slowed her down, but they never diminished her determination. She continued to battle through every rally and even delivered the match-clinching point before collapsing to the floor, where she had to be helped off the court.
Beyond delivering a memorable performance in front of her loved ones, Tagaod also took pride in representing her fellow Bisaya, hoping her journey would inspire aspiring volleyball players from Mindanao and the Visayas.
“Siyempre, sobrang happy ako na naipakita ko sa mga Bisaya kung ano’ng merong talent ang isang Bisaya rin,” she said.
“Sa lahat ng mga nagdi-dream na mag-PVL, huwag n’yo lang kalimutan lahat ng sacrifices at tiyaga n’yo. Magbubunga at magbubunga rin ‘yan.”
