The Philippine sports community lost another one of its members.
Former Games and Amusements Board Chairman Atty. Domeng Cepeda (July 1, 1935-May 2, 2021) passed away peacefully, Sunday evening.
He was 86 years old.
Cepeda, a proud member of the Philippine Bar, became the Chairman of the Games and Amusements Board from 1994 to July 2001 under the presidency of Fidel Ramos and Joseph E. Estrada.
During his tenure, the World Boxing Council seminar was held at the Manila Hotel on July 4-6, 1996. He was also responsible for having Luisito “Lindol” Espinosa stake his WBC world title defenses at the Rizal Park twice – in 1996 and 1997.
Cepeda had also represented the Philippines in the different international boxing bodies such as the WBC and the WBA.
While serving as the Chairman of GAB, he was elected as the OPBF President and his term was extended up to 1998 during the OPBF Executive Annual Meeting held at Sofitel.
In 2001, after his tenure as GAB Chairman, he became WBC Asia’s legal counsel.
“We recognize his efforts and invaluable contributions to the growth of professional sports in the Philippines. He is truly an inspiration and his memory will live on forever,” said current GAB chairman Baham Mitra.
“Rest in Christ’s love, Chairman Domeng.”
