The first round matchup between University of the Philippines and Adamson University in the UAAP Season 87 Baseball Tournament was suspended due to darkness on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium in Malate, Manila.
In a dramatic turn of events, the Soaring Falcons erupted for 10 runs in the top of the ninth inning, overturning a 6-14 deficit to seize a 16-14 lead.
However, the game was halted as the stadium lacked lighting to continue play.
The Fighting Maroons had built an eight-run advantage over the first eight innings, highlighted by a six-run surge in the fourth.
Despite Adamson’s late-game rally, UP was set to bat in the bottom of the ninth, holding a chance to reclaim the lead as the designated home team.
Currently, both UP and Adamson hold identical 1-2 records, trailing behind National University (4-0) and De La Salle University (3-1) in the standings.
The suspended game will only be resumed if its outcome has implications on the standings or playoff race. Should the game continue at a later date, UP will begin the inning at bat.
Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs dominated the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 14-6, to remain atop the standings at 4-0. Meanwhile, the Green Batters edged out the University of Santo Tomas Golden Sox, 8-6, in 10 innings, securing solo second place with a 3-1 slate.
Both UST and Ateneo currently hold 1-3 records.
