There is no stopping ONE Championship in its continuous quest to share Asia’s martial arts heritage with the world.
Monday evening, ONE CEO and Chairman Chatri Sityodtong announced that the organization will be holding two full-scale World Championship events for ONE: Century.
The spectacle happens on 13 October at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan – a perfect celebration of the company’s centennial show.
“To celebrate our historic 100th show, I am thrilled to announce that ONE: Century on Sunday, October 13 in Tokyo will feature two full-scale World Championship events (of 11 fights on each card) on the same day with World Championship title fights, World Grand Prix Championship title fights, and much more!” Sityodtong announced.
The first show will take place on Sunday morning, which will let viewers from the US catch the event on primetime through TNT. Another event will take place in the evening, which will also be aired worldwide.
If there are any doubts about ONE’s willingness to expand to the US, then this move shuns all questions.
“In what will be the biggest martial arts extravaganza in history, our morning Tokyo show will air live on TNT on Saturday night in the US (as well as other select countries), and our evening Tokyo show will air live across 140-plus countries,” Sityodtong added.
Though the placement of the matches has yet to be determined, the card looks fantastic already.
Three World Title bouts are currently on slate, alongside the three World Grand Prix Championship Finals.
Two-division World Champion Aung La N Sang will defend his ONE Light Heavyweight World Title against ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon Vera in one of the key matches of the evening.
Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes will also defend his ONE Bantamweight World Title when he battles Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon for the fourth time.
And “Unstoppable” Angela Lee defends her ONE Atomweight World Title against ONE Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan.
For the Grand Prix Finals, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will be battling Danny “The King” Kingad in the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Championship Final, and Saygid Guseyn “Dagi” Arslanaliev will be taking on Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez in the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix Championship Final.
The card will also feature two of the best kickboxers on the planet as Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan takes on Samy Sana for US$1 million in the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix Championship Final.
