Ben Phillips’ La Salle journey is far from over

Ben Phillips’ road as a De La Salle student-athlete might not yet be done.

The captain of the Green Archers was hopeful of helping the Green Spikers in their upcoming campaign in the UAAP Season 86 Men’s Volleyball Tournament next year.

“I need to just take a few weeks just to rest. I’m really tired, but I throw my full support behind the men’s volleyball team,” said the 6-foot-6 center/middle blocker.

“They’re champions as well. They’re on the rise and I really wish them the best of luck. I hope to join them soon.”

The former Gilas Pilipinas pool member first played for La Salle back in Season 84 along with his brother Mike. Together, they went as far as the Final Four.

The following season, the Green Archers failed to make the Final Four after they lost to the Adamson Soaring Falcons in the play-off.

This time, there were no heartbreaks – La Salle finally reclaimed the championship after seven seasons.

“Walang words galing sa akin. Sarap ng feeling nato kasi talagang team effort. We have our former team captain Joaqui Manuel, sila Evan Nelle, Mark Nonoy, and Francis Escandor – we’re the graduating seniors so it’s so nice to finally be here,” said Phillips.

Whether or not he continues his career in sports, the Season 86 champion has so many things going for him outside the court that can help him navigate life outside of the court.

If indeed this was the last time Phillips suited up for La Salle, then what a way to bow out.

“God-willing, if ever I could continue to play basketball dito sa Pilipinas, I would love to join the PBA,” he said.

“I’m also taking my doctorate ngayon sa La Salle, Doctor of Business Administration, and I have a lot of businesses in the States,” he continued.

“I want to make sure that I’m well rounded and connect with all the La Salle alumni that are here.”
