Another Gilas Pilipinas Boys standout has decided where he will continue his basketball journey in college.
Kyle Sardon has committed to De La Salle University.
The 5-foot-10 guard from Binalbagan, Negros Occidental chose the Green Archers not only because of their strong basketball program but also for the school’s academic excellence.
“Aside po sa basketball program, malaking tulong din po sa akin ang academics ng La Salle, lalo na para sa future ko,” said the 18-year-old standout from St. Roberts International College.
Sardon also credited Spencer Pretta for helping shape his decision.
Pretta, who previously played under Topex Robinson during his time at Lyceum of the Philippines University, gave Sardon valuable insight into what La Salle has to offer.
“Medyo malaking influence din si Kuya Spencer kasi na-layout po niya talaga yung basketball program at yung academics po ng La Salle sa akin,” he said.
Sardon has been one of the bright spots for Gilas Pilipinas Boys over the past several months.
He caught the attention of many during the 2026 Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup after scoring 20 points against the University of the Philippines.
He also averaged 6.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in the SEABA qualifiers and is currently part of the national team pool preparing for the 2026 FIBA Under-18 Asia Cup in Ahmedabad, India this August.
Although he knows his national team duties will cause him to miss part of La Salle’s buildup for UAAP Season 89, Sardon is willing to be patient even if he does not immediately earn a spot on the Green Archers’ Team A.
“Malaking help po sa akin yung Gilas in terms of competition and paano maiimprove yung laro ko na sana po ay magtranslate to college,” said Sardon.
Before earning his college commitment, Sardon was among the standout performers for Western Visayas during the 2025 Palarong Pambansa alongside Luke Rose. His impressive showing in the tournament helped put him on the radar of several top collegiate programs.
Looking back on his journey, Sardon expressed his gratitude to everyone who played a role in his development, particularly St. Roberts International College, Elite Lab, and his longtime high school coach John Guanco.
“Super grateful po ako kay Coach John kasi siya ang nagbigay sa akin ng chance na mag-grow yung laro ko every year sa St. Robert’s. Thankful din ako sa Elite Lab family and lalong-lalo na po sa parents sa Iloilo dahil all out po sila sa journey ko papuntang college,” he expressed.
Now, Sardon is eager to begin the next chapter of his career and become part of La Salle’s future core.
“Super excited ako kasi dream school ko po yung La Salle at makapaglaro under Coach Topex.”
