Russel Ogana joins UP after La Salle exit

An Archer is ready to take aim in Diliman as Russel Ogana joins the Fighting Maroons.

Ogana and De La Salle University decided to part ways late last week. La Salle head coach Topex Robinson confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times, adding that the 6-foot-2 guard is heading for the University of the Philippines.

This move comes as La Salle’s wing rotation is already stacked, featuring talents like Jcee Macalalag, Doy Dungo, Earl Abadam, and CJ Austria.

Ogana, who sat out UAAP Season 87, honed his skills with La Salle’s Team B. During the 2024 PG Flex UCAL Invitational Tournament, he was a standout performer, averaging 11.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

Now, the 19-year-old guard is set to reunite with UP head coach Goldwin Monteverde, the man who discovered him during the Palarong Pambansa.

Ogana will undergo a one-year residency before becoming eligible to play in UAAP Season 89.

He will have three years of eligibility, arriving at an opportune time as the Fighting Maroons’ core of Harold Alarcon, Reyland Torres, Janjan Felicilda, Gerry Abadiano, and Terrence Fortea will have exhausted their playing years by then.
