The PBA is now tinkering with the idea of going regional.
So to get an idea of how that would look, the league is turning the PBA 3×3 into a nation-wide competition come its second season beginning June.
“This is the first step for the PBA to go regional,” said PBA Vice Chairman Bobby Rosales in Wednesday’s virtual presser that tackled plans for Season 47.
“Hopefully, we can do something similar to expand the 5-on-5. But we can start in the 3×3 first.”
Rosales said that Season Two will play simultaneous tournaments in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and will conclude in a national championship.
“PBA 3×3 Chairman Dickie Bachmann has big plans,” the amiable exec said.
“We expect teams not only from Luzon and Metro Manila to join the PBA 3×3. I’m sure there’s a lot of interest in the Visayas and Mindanao.”
A part of the league’s plans for years, the PBA 3×3 finally got rolling back in November with 13 teams, and has since held two conferences.
Limitless emerged as the First Conference grand champions, eventually named as the Philippines’ representative to the 31st Southeast Asian Games.
Pioneer then became the kings of the Second Conference just last April 27 in an unlikely run that saw the Pro Tibay oust the Appmasters in the quarters.Set featured image
There remains no update as to when the Third Conference will commence concluding the first season of the PBA’s own three-a-side wars.
