After six seasons at the helm, Johnedel Cardel was unceremoniously let go by Terrafirma, marking the end of his tenure that began in 2018.
The Dyip parted ways with Cardel late last week via a Viber message, according to multiple sources.
Terrafirma team governor Bobby Rosales confirmed the decision to Tiebreaker Times, adding that assistant coach Raymond Tiongco will step in as interim head coach.
In addition to the coaching change, Terrafirma will undergo further reshuffling.
Ronald Tubid is expected to join Tiongco’s staff, while Dark League Studios chief AC Valdenor is set to be named as the new team manager, per sources familiar with the situation.
Cardel first took over as head coach after the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, replacing Ricky Dandan.
However, despite his efforts, the Dyip struggled during his tenure, compiling a record of just 32 wins against 114 losses.
His best campaign came during the 2023-24 Philippine Cup, where he led Terrafirma to a rare quarterfinal appearance.
The Dyip’s run, however, was cut short by powerhouse San Miguel, but it marked a high point in Cardel’s stint.
