Qatar’s Basketball Federation has just received the prestigious honor of hosting the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
This will be the first time that this important event has ever taken place in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions.
The FIFA World Cup 2022 was also hosted by Qatar, highlighting the country’s commitment to hosting international sporting events.
The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 will offer an opportunity for fans to customize their World Cup experience by accessing more games in person than in any other FIBA World Cup over the last 20 years.
All the games will be played in Doha, Qatar’s capital city, with the innovative feature of having all the venues located within a 30-minute radius of each other.
The FIBA’s Central Board was impressed by the high quality and innovative elements of the bid, including the compact geographical nature, unique scheduling flexibility to serve the fans, and a focus on sustainability.
The subway and public transportation system has recently been upgraded to provide top-notch service to all visitors, and all the venues for the men’s flagship event are already constructed. The implementation of widely used green technologies will help to ensure that the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 will be a carbon-neutral event.
FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis commented on the successful bid, saying, “We are very confident that this event will be one of the highest quality both on and off the court.
“More importantly, it will be delivered by a skilled and experienced team that has an excellent track record on a wide range of major international sporting events.”
The hosting of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 in Doha, Qatar, will engage millions of people in basketball throughout the MENA region, helping to grow the popularity of the sport even further.
Qatar’s capital city is one of the best-connected destinations globally, with direct flights from most of the potential participating countries.
FIBA President Hamane Niang congratulated the QBF on their successful bid, saying, “We are very happy to be able to award the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 to Qatar.”
Unlike this year, Gilas Pilipinas will have to go through the qualification process to qualify for the global meet.
